About Bugwood

For 30 years, Bugwood has helped turn science into action through trusted information, practical tools, and collaborative support.

Bugwood is the University of Georgia's Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health

Founded in 1996, Bugwood was created to bring science and technology together through free tools that support programs, outreach, and education. For three decades, we have worked with partners to develop practical solutions and solve real-world problems.

The Center has grown into a trusted hub for information, tools, and resources including internationally used reporting systems, image libraries, websites, mobile tools, and collaboration platforms.

This progress has been made possible through the work of our dedicated staff, valued partners, contributors, and supporters who have helped shape Bugwood. Our work continues through ongoing service, innovation, and support for the challenges ahead.

Vision

We support efforts to prevent new introductions, detect emerging threats, guide timely response, document change, and improve the long-term health of our ecosystems. Addressing these challenges requires collaboration that extends beyond traditional disciplines, institutions, agencies, and geographic boundaries.

Mission

We advance invasive species management, integrated pest management, and forest health by building partnerships and applying information technology, science, and outreach to deliver practical solutions, reliable information, and trusted data.

Bugwood and UGA

Bugwood’s mission is rooted in the land-grant tradition of the University of Georgia, where teaching, research, and public service drive innovation and impact. Jointly housed within the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, we operate within an academic environment recognized for leadership in agriculture, forestry, natural resources, and extension. As the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health, Bugwood carries that tradition forward by translating science into technology, partnerships, education, and outreach that support healthier ecosystems and informed stewardship.

Located at the University of Georgia - Tifton Campus

Bugwood’s Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health is located on the University of Georgia Tifton Campus in the historic Administration Building, one of the original landmark buildings at the front of campus. Completed in 1955, the building has long supported research, education, and public service—housing administrative offices, laboratories, library resources, and meeting spaces that helped shape the campus’s early growth. Today, we continue that tradition from the same location, sharing the building with USDA APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine.
