Compiled and edited by Peter Huxley and Helen van Houten, International Centre for Research in Agroforestry - 1997

juvenile leaf

Referring to a leaf of young a plant or shoot from the base of an older plant, particularly when this leaf differs in shape from leaves of mature plants. For example, in eucalyptus, the first leaves formed after the cotyledons and before the formation of subsquent types of leaves.

A phase of plant development prior to the time when the plant has the capability to flower. Some species (for example, Eucalyptus spp) form juvenile leaves at this time.
