XII. Livestock and Poultry Insects D. C. Sheppard and R. NobletIn 1997, Darkling
beetles caused major losses to Georgia's poultry producers, primarily in Georgia's large broiler industry. Horn flies caused concerns in cattle, horses and swine. House flies were present in some number at practically all animal
production units, but caused nuisance and public relations problems at a relatively few sites. Stable flies caused distress among cattle, horses, and some swine. Northern fowl mites were a major problem in caged layer and breeder
flocks.
